Community based resource recovery networking event

Last Thursday, Envision's offices were filled with lots of purposeful and engaging conversation, with plenty of laughter sprinkled throughout, as a variety of people related to community based resource recovery in Auckland gathered for drinks and a pot luck meal.  The main aim of the evening was to provide an informal context for people to connect with each other - and by all accounts it was a great success and one to be replicated again sometime soon. Watch this space!

Envision's new furniture

Envision's new furniture

Envision has always been about supporting reuse, up cycling and practicing what we preach. So when it came time to get some new office furniture we jumped at the chance to avoid the standard route of MDF, veneer covered boredom, and instead support local economic development whilst diverting material from landfill.

Partnering with Tim Codyre, an incredibly talented and successful sculptor and carver, we asked him to try and produce simple to construct office desks from pallets we sourced within 3 kilometres of our office. The first has been delivered which is what I'm writing this on, and we love it! He is now going ahead with making another five and then we'll get onto a cabinet for our stationary supplies. If you're in the area you are very welcome to call in, have a cuppa and check out the furniture for yourselves in our office, flick me an email to arrange.

Sydney's Reverse Vending Machines

The City of Sydney has recently installed two 'Reverse Vending Machines' in the central city area. The machines are part of a trial in which the user is offered one of two rewards for inserting empty beverage containers such as aluminium cans and plastic bottles. Essentially a Cash for Containers scheme, users can receive prizes such as food vouchers, bus passes or donate their winnings to Clean Up Australia which promotes having Cash for Containers schemes everywhere. In the short time they've been operational over 5million containers have been collected by the machines!
